Some reading and listening for you, some of it especially fitting this Easter Sunday.
- Why I’m not a bit fan of church Easter egg hunts.
- Your first day in a youth ministry job – Veteran youth minister Lars Rood gives some good ways to spend your first official day.
- The official band of Emergent – After counting them down, Rick reveals #1.
- The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, gives Holy Week lectures.
- The Trial of Jesus: A Maundy Thursday Sermon – It would also be fitting on Good Friday.
- Why Jesus Died – Tony Jones gives us a snippet of his theory of the atonement.
- Free Ministry Resources – Tim Schmoyer point us towards StuffICanUse.com, which has lots of high-quality free resources for ministry. I haven’t looked closely at them, but they look pretty top-notch, especially if you are looking for graphics help.
- On the debaptism phenomenon – Is atheism a religion?
- Making a first aid kit – Though this is meant for families, it might be a good starting point for your youth ministry first aid kit if you are making your own or restocking a used kit.
- Changing the metaphor for small church – Adam McLane advocates shifting from business language to farming language. I completely agree.
- More free youth ministry resources – This time from the guys at Rethinking Youth Ministry.
- Myth of the Perfect Youth Pastor – I found this site a few days ago and this series is great. Brian has put most of his posts into one downloadable PDF, but I think he has added a few more myths that are not in the PDF. So make sure to click around and read the latest updates as well.
- Easter Strategery – Adam has been making some really good posts lately, and this is another of them. Instead of defending the resurrection, why don’t churches explain how they are living the resurrection? Unfortunately, it’s too late to change anything for this Easter, but maybe we can put some of this to practice next year.
Great list, Matt. Thanks for including us at Rethinking Youth Ministry.
