In a brief but provocative post, the always paradoxical Peter Rollins confesses that he denies the resurrection of Jesus. I find it helps to read all of his stuff in his Irish accent. It makes everything much more profound and dramatic. So, do you deny the resurrection?
Now Reading: Christianity for the Rest of Us
I’ve recently been reading Diana Butler Bass’ Christianity for the Rest of Us: How the Neighborhood Church Is Transforming the Faith. This isn’t the first book by Bass that I’ve read, but this is definitely her most fiesty book. She takes on the evangelical mainstram in quite a few places and juxaposes it with her […]
New Look
I’m trying out a new blog theme to see what I think. I need to make a few adjustments to get it how I like, but I think this might work out.
The Future of Church Buildings?
Stumbled across a piece in the New York Times about a man who lives in a 344 square foot apartment with 24 rooms. Okay, well, not exactly 24 rooms, but his apartment is reconfigurable with sliding walls into 24 different configurations. It is pretty amazing. Read the article and then check out the slide show. […]
Google Reader vs. Bloglines
I’ve been a pretty ardent supporter of Bloglines as my RSS feed reader of choice. I still think if all you want to do is read RSS feeds, Bloglines is the way to go. However, I’ve seen so many people using Google Reader that I’m going to give it a shot for a little while […]
On Seminary Education
When I was at Solomon’s Porch on Sunday night, Doug Pagitt said something to the effect that when he was going to seminary he was being trained for an industry that was dying and would likely cease to exist (and that those of us in seminary should think about that). He compared it to being […]
Solomon’s Porch: Your Average, Everyday, Cutting-Edge Church
I’ve been in St. Paul, MN for a little while taking an intensive class for my M.A. degree at Luther Seminary. Last night a few of us decided to go to Solomon’s Porch for our Sunday church experience. I mean, if you don’t have a home congregation you might as well go somewhere “hip,” right? […]
Of Sickness, Lock-Ins, and Schoolwork
All of the above has kept me busy and/or in bed. Sometimes both at the same time. I’ve been sick for about two weeks and can’t seem to shake this crud I’ve got. It’s not something that makes me bedridden, but I’m just exhausted all the time. I bet I could sleep for 14 hours […]
Podcast Episode 0.2: Church Marketing Part 3
This episode proves the third time is not the charm. I think this is our worst podcast thus far, so if you have better things to do, skip it. We thought about not posting it at all, but in the spirit of transparency, authenticity, and not yet having the next podcast ready to go, here […]
When Life Gives You Lemons, Make a Racecar
The blog has been dormant for about a week due to a special project I’ve been working on. This October my younger brother Drew was a driver in the Houston race of the 24 Hours of Lemons, an amateur endurance race for cars that have been bought and race-prepped (excluding “safety” items) for $500 or […]
