Below is the article I wrote for this month’s church newsletter. I really struggled writing it; I just couldn’t put the words together like I wanted to. Hopefully, it will be coherent enough that people will mildly understand what I was getting at. As we’re trying to communicate a new way of doing youth ministry to […]
Good Company
I was listening to the recent Youth Specialties Podcast with Tony Jones and heard a quote from Tony that is quite encouraging. According to Tony, the average article in a scholarly academic journal gets read by four people. Four. I guess my blog traffic is in “distinguished” company.
Thinking
I’m trying to figure out what put me in my recent blog-funk. I haven’t pinpointed anything yet. But I am getting to the point were I’m wondering if I will even attempt to ever post again and I should just shut the ol’ blog down. That doesn’t excite me. But neither does writing anything. Blah. […]
Update
It’s been a while. Lots of reason’s why. But, it’s mostly laziness. Let’s check up on the new year’s resolutions I made: Pray the daily office using Phyllis Tickle’s The Divine Hours: Not going so well. Read through the Bible in 2007: Not going so well. Pray more for the youth ministry: Not going as […]
Hidden Passion
If you knew me in high school, you would have known that I was a huge car nut and motorsports fan. I never really was into such things for the prestige, but for the engineering and talent. I could watch a race car go around a track for days on end and marvel at the […]
Southern Baptist Nonsense
Having been a member at an SBC church for a time, I feel like I have a little bit of authority to criticize certain things. This is absolutely laughable.
Christian Radio
I still feel like I’m trying to catch up from when I was out of the office for three days being sick. Craziness. The blogging has suffered notably. Anyways, I heard something along these lines on the radio on the way to work yesterday morning, “Your body is simply a vehicle for transporting your soul.” […]
Blah
… that’s how I’ve been feeling lately. I’ve missed three days of work being sick. It feels like an amazingly hardcore sinus infection. I’m off to the Dr. in the morning. When I get feeling better, I’ll continue posting my Neo-Youth Ministry Series.
He says it better
After just writing a post on the need for youth ministers to embrace their roles as theologians (as well as writing one a few months ago), I received the most recent edition (January/February) of The Journal of Student Ministries. On the cover I noticed an article on “Theological Rigor” by (Dr.) Andrew Root. I have […]
Neo-Youth Ministry Part 4: The Youth Minister as Theologian
I have to admit, I may be a little biased with this first attribute of a youth minister able to transition towards a Neo-Youth Ministry. During my junior year of college, I gave consideration to going into the world of academics and heading straight for seminary (and a subsequent Ph.D.) after undergrad. But my wife […]
